Position Summary

The Associate Director, Rufus Europe is a day-to-day leadership role, managing the output from a network team to service the extensive pan-European Amazon Prime Video business, covering 15+ countries.  Highly organized, articulate, ambitious and innovative in their approach to communications solutions, the Associate Director will be one of the main go-to persons for client stakeholder relationships and the internal leader of the Prime Video business. They will inspire and motivate our teams to deliver the highest quality integrated solutions across a full spectrum of communication disciplines – Strategy, Communications Design and Partnerships, as well as Mediabrands Specialty Business Units across Social and Programmatic.  The Associate Director is responsible for supporting client needs and challenges and bringing forth specialised services and solutions to meet those needs, whilst growing and strengthening the client relationship. They will be someone who can bring people together across crafts and the other Mediabrands teams in a positive and supportive environment that empowers and encourages.  They will understand the importance and urgency of Initiative and Rufus’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts and wholeheartedly support these.  Most importantly, they will approach their team and their work with heart first.

Key to the role will be earning trust and building strong relationships with the Amazon clients. There are dedicated leads in the global Amazon Prime client team heading up Brand and Sports, respectively.  The Associate Director would work with them directly on any campaigns that span more than one EU country.  Brand campaigns are designed to drive an association between Amazon Prime Video and the range of quality owned content on the site and ultimately to warm up audiences. There is a problem within the category around misattribution –audiences can often forget where they have seen a particular program and then just attribute it to Netflix.  In France specifically, Amazon as a company does not have a good reputation, so the Brand campaigns have a big job to do in changing perceptions.  Many exciting challenges!

The second part of the role is working on Sport.  Amazon Prime Video have rights for UCL in Italy and Germany and League 1 in France. Otherwise, there are sports documentaries that will be marketed across a EU7 (UK, IT, ES, FR, DE, AT, IE).  It is essential to have a passion and knowledge of Sport and experience working with Sport as this is a specialized area and rights packages can differ from market to market.  Experience working with partnerships is also important as this will likely feature highly in campaigns.

 Any Ents experience would as well as experience of working in international would be ideal but not required. They will be a clear and persuasive communicator, skilled in both verbal and written communications, and able to present and sell through ideas. Strong media knowledge and rationale – the key skill here is being able to collate data from our network team in order to visualize it in a digestible way in order to shape the narrative and defend the strategy.  The Associate Director is the heart beat of the team, one of the central points of contact with our network and clients - an empathetic and open style goes a long way, a person who knows how to get the most out of people.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Ideal candidate will have Entertainment and pan-European experience, though these are not required (Sport is more important)
  • Strong leader who is positive, motivating, and inspirational in a team environment
  • Ability to think big: interrogate the way the team works and initiate and champion programs that drive improvement for the long term
  • Paired with the knowledge of when to dive deep and immerse themselves in the client business or team ways of working to solve problems
  • Operationally excellent. Able to create clear purpose, drive high performance culture, and build capability at all levels with proven experience of how to deliver through and with others to ensure smooth process and executional excellence
  • Strong presenter.  Confident, persuasive, and collaborative communicator, with strong written and presentation skills
  • A strong partner and proven collaborator. Can navigate and influence across structures and cultures, both internally and externally, and manage significant stakeholders and key industry relationships
  • Engaged in the relentless pursuit of better ways of working
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with the ability to learn and apply new concepts and tools quickly
