Position Summary

What will a Director of Strategic Planning do at Initiative?

At Initiative, strategy is at the heart of our communications design process. The role of the Director of Strategic Planning is a unique one. We're looking for a thinker, doer and builder. Someone who is intrinsically curious and passionate, with the ability to craft innovative thoughts into actionable insights, narratives and points of view.

 

The Role:

  1. Be the senior strategic lead across our travel portfolio of clients helping promote our beautiful country and the places within it
  2. Build and facilitate workshops to help internal and external stakeholders arrive at the right solutions
  3. Have a point of view on marketing effectiveness and go-to-market strategies
  4. Be an effective collaborator with our offices around the world helping bridges local nuances and the global strategy
  5. Champion the work

Key Responsibilities

Thinking:

  1. Ask questions. Uncover culturally relevant insights that fuel the communication design process by utilizing a variety of research methods
  2. Analyze cultural trends, media behaviour, emerging technology and platforms, competitive activity and distill into actionable implications and recommendations
  3. Become an expert user of our proprietary tools and lead the insight development process
 
Doing:
  1. Facilitate integrated planning, ideation and workshop sessions with both internal and external stakeholders, fostering the team’s ability to think collaboratively
  2. Lead the brief writing process and help articulate the problem working in collaboration with both the account teams and client partners
  3. Comfortably function with ambiguity. Ability to thrive in a self-directed work stream and easily adjust between role functions is a must
 
Building:
  1. Support the expansion of the strategy team’s function and develop tools, processes and workshops that enhance capability
  2. Elevate the craft by challenging ideas at all levels, providing inspiration and propelling new concepts across the agency
  3. Develop strong relationships with agency partners, media partners and clients; be a valued advisor and coach

Desired Skills & Experience

What Are We Looking For?

  • 8+ years of experience in media, advertising, consulting, brand and/or creative strategy; experience across multiple industries/verticals is considered an asset
  • Experience managing a team and developing unique skillsets of each team member
  • Skilled in developing marketing briefs, building connection and channel strategies
  • Effective collaborator and communicator; extensive experience facilitating workshops and discussions
  • Strong written communication skills, both professional writing and creative storytelling
  • Understanding of and experience with different research facilitation methods and an ability to analyze, interpret and formulate hypotheses from data
  • New business development and pitch experiences is an asset
  • Passionate about media, solving problems and an insatiable appetite for learning
