Position Summary

The Manager, Media Investment Analytics role falls within MAGNA Canada and reports to the Senior Director of MAGNA Investments. The role will work closely with Mediabrands’ various media partners, as well as various investment key stakeholders across all Mediabrands agencies. 
 
Knowing that good data leads to good decisions, the Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of ensuring the integrity and accuracy of media investment data and reporting. With a focus on tracking agreements with media partners, the role requires a balance of analytical and interpersonal skills that will facilitate smarter, more effective media investments on behalf of our clients.  
 
The Manager, Media Investments Analytics role is one that requires a proactive and curious mindset. The successful applicant will be one who can show the desire to move beyond the reactive supply of information, prioritize innovation in our processes and level of analysis, and bring forward information and insights that drive the business forward.
 
In this role, you will lead a) the monthly forecasting process to support Mediabrands’ investments and financial planning and b) the requirements definition for the development of systems and processes to track media investments and commitments. 
  
This individual will provide data support in the benchmarking and tracking of Mediabrands’ and industry investment composition (internal, MAGNA Intelligence, SMI), and inflation (internal, MAGNA Intelligence, Ebiquity), ideate, consult and help to implement systems that make data more easily accessible to the organization, support ad-hoc requests from the Investments and Leadership teams.
 
The Manager will be a key resource across Mediabrands both for the actual numbers attached to the above elements and for understanding the trends driving those numbers. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly Magna forecasting process across all media channels through the collection, consolidation, and analyses of spend projections, working with the agencies in the process to ensure the integrity and accuracy of forecasting data.
  • Provide in-depth analyses and insightful interpretation of forecasting data to support tracking of client/brand budgets and media partner commitments
  • Find new ways to uncover data-driven insights that improve our ability to deliver client success, maximize our collective spending power, and inform our spending decisions
  • Create and update standardized reports and Tableau/Power BI dashboards based on forecast and actual data to support management reporting
  • Collaborate with the Media Operations team on reporting and analytics projects to build and improve processes and reporting solutions
  • Support MAGNA’s corporate deal negotiations by providing context and analysis on historical and forward-looking data
  • Liaise with the Finance teams to contribute to and validate their reporting needs
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting requests
  • Ongoing development and implementation of process improvement procedures to maximize the efficiency and accuracy of reporting and forecasting
  • Support and provide insights to the MAGNA Investment team in order to deliver against team goals.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Proven success working in a media analytics role from either a financial or business analysis perspective. Five to seven (5 - 7) years of experience is desirable.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent professional experience. University or college degree in business, advertising, or marketing preferred. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint – knowledge of advanced Excel capabilities is preferred (Power Queries, nested functions, macros etc.).
  • Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools (Tableau required) with the ability to define/design/manage reporting solutions.
  • Proven experience using data to tell a story that impacts decision making.
  • Fundamental knowledge of data warehouse concepts and APIs; MS SQL required.
  • Comfort working with internal stakeholders at all levels in a way that fosters both partnership and results.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements to non-technical business stakeholders
  • Ability to build and manage complex reporting and analytical models from various data sources which aid in decision making.
  • Proven analytical and financial acumen.
  • Highly developed organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – must be able to communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • A proactive, positive approach to problem-solving, supporting the team, self-development.
  • Curiosity, with an enthusiasm for learning.

  • Knowledge of Connected TV, AVOD, BVOD etc.
  • Knowledge of the Programmatic/Addressable space
  • A broad understanding of the Canadian media landscape
  • Understanding of media planning and buying processes
  • Exposure to financial reporting
