Position Summary

The Negotiator, Local Partnerships role at Initiative is responsible for negotiating, placing and maintaining Local video and audio buys on behalf of our clients. Negotiators must work collaboratively with other disciplines such as Strategy, Communications Design, and Client Advisors. The position requires a strong aptitude for buying and the ability to multi-task. A high level of attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work under pressure is required. A Partnership Negotiator will always exhibit a collaborative and fair demeanor with media partners to honor the Initiative culture and service commitments we declare in the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver responsive and superior client customer service
  • Assist in preparing presentation materials for submission to clients
  • Assist in developing POVs for clients
  • Ability to work in a team environment that promotes collaboration including Client Advice and Management, Strategy, Communications Design, SBUs and external agency partners
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Train Associates, and review work for accuracy and adherence to deadlines
  • Place, confirm and monitor media buys in assigned markets
  • Manage added value and promotional executions, including solicitation from media partners, analysis of value, and proper documentation to internal team
  • Monitor market conditions/changes; immediately communicate and offer solutions to market problems as they arise
  • Prepare presentation materials, encompassing all pertinent data for buy, for submission to Communication Design, Client Advice, and clients
  • Pull research reports as needed including rankers, trends and overnight ratings
  • Assist in preparing post buy documents
  • Execute smooth day-to-day account activities:
    • Stewardship
    • Enter buys into MBOX and insure system reflects accurate buy data
    • Monitor local buys weekly based on audience delivery data to insure delivery in flight
    • Secure necessary ADU weight
    • Assist with traffic issues
    • Oversee discrepancy resolution
  • Develop and maintain media partner relationships
  • Negotiate pricing, estimate ratings, and schedule buys that reflect efficiencies and client objectives
  • Negotiate added value executions that support client objectives
  • Insure understanding of MAGNA and IPG Mediabrands priority media partners
  • Prioritization:
    • 10% Client
    • 50% Internal
    • 40% Commercial
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):
  • Client
    • Responsiveness to client requests
    • Works closely with other teams to ensure client strategies are woven into media buys
    • Successful stewardship of client's campaigns and oversight of process from RFP, negotiations to post report
  • Internal
    • Mentor and Assist in the training and management of Associates
    • Participates in agency and external personal growth & education initiatives
    • Adherence to / use of agency processes and tools
    • Collaboration with other disciplines/Specialty Business Units (Orion, Cadreon, Comms Design) for a holistic buying approach
  • Commercial
    • Supports and delivers on MAGNA agency-wide media partnership targets
    • Ensures and advocates for agency partner relationships
    • Delivers best in class rates and efficiencies through strong negotiations and leverage of MAGNA partnerships

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience
  • 1+ years of Media experience; preferably as a Partnerships Associate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid negotiating skills and experience collaborating with strategy and planning teams
  • Proven problem solving ability 
  • Able to work as part of a team in a deadline-driven, high-pressure environment
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills and multi-tasking capabilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word
  • Knowledgeable in media math
  • Proficient with Mediaocean or equivalent Inventory Management system
