We are looking for you - dynamic, best-in-class talent, with a passion for all things media - to launch your career as Senior Legal Counsel on our Legal team. Orion Worldwide seeks a talented, business-oriented attorney to join its legal team in New York.  You will interact primarily with agency business teams globally and their advertiser clients.  Close collaboration with the Mediabrands and IPG corporate legal teams and outside counsel also is expected.


This position requires a strong emphasis on commercial transactions and an ability to draft and negotiate a high volume of agreements relating to advertising/marketing services. This role will provide legal support on a variety of media buying models and manage the legal team in a global media trading environment. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years’ experience working and succeeding in a fast-paced, fluid, high-performing and open corporate or law firm culture, preferably in an advertising agency, advertising/marketing compliance department of a company, or law firm dedicated to servicing such business. This role reports to the Orion Global General Counsel and will lead a team including: Global Contracts Manager, U.S. Attorney, U.S. contracts manager and work with shared global regional legal support.

Key Responsibilities

What You'll Do & How You'll Learn

  • Negotiate and draft a wide variety of agreements including media vendor and client contracts 
  • Provide counsel to business with specialties in appropriate areas of legal issue to establish and provide proper legal advice
  • Manage complex negotiations with clients and vendors and liaising with key executives including U.S. President and CFO, Market Commercial Directors and Regional Managing Directors.
  • Offering legal and regulatory compliance support across the business with opportunities to develop new, more effective working methods and practices
  • Educate, advise, and counsel management on legal issues and risks related to business decisions
  • Standardize templates, processes, training materials and legal guidance where possible, to improve efficiency of legal services to global markets
  • Providing training to and updating markets on contract processes, and key industry and legal developments
  • Day to day management of Orion legal group and first escalation point for global Orion legal support
  • Occasional international travel may be required

Desired Skills & Experience

About You

  • Applicant must have Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice and in good standing in New York, or admission in another state with the legal ability to practice law in-house in New York
  • 6+years' relevant legal experience and have trained in a leading law firm or in-house environment.
  • Significant contract negotiation and drafting experience
  • Must have understanding of media buying landscape
  • Candidate must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of commercial contracts including revenue related activity and good working knowledge of media buying, e-commerce, IT, IP & privacy matters.
  • Experience managing direct reports; managing day to day work, training, and developing team members
  • The ideal candidate should be able demonstrate the following skills:
  • Ability to handle multiple complex matters in pressurized time constraints
  • Can use strategic thinking and excellent business judgment to provide practical legal advice to senior management
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with internal and external individuals at all levels
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
    Technologically & digitally literate
  • Proven ability to manage high volume of competing priorities simultaneously
  • Team player, self-motivating, and collaborative
  • Capability to understand business objectives and applicable risks/rewards
  • Commercial acumen including understanding revenue recognition
  • International working experience/sensitivity to other cultures

We also offer a competitive Total Compensation package, including a competitive salary and eligibility for an annual discretionary incentive award or a relevant incentive award.

The salary range for this position is $190,000 to $215,000.  Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position, market considerations, budgetary considerations, tenure and standing with the Company (applicable to current employees), as well as the employee’s/applicant’s skill set, level of experience, and qualifications.
