Position Summary

As a Strategy Director at UM you will be a leader and a member of one of the strongest strategy teams in Australia. You will be responsible for the leadership, development and guidance of strategic recommendations for some of the biggest, most innovative and exciting clients in the country.
This is a role for an experienced and capable strategist to take ownership of their clients and drive an agency wide impact.
While it is not the Strategy Director’s responsibility to manage the client, the ability to build trusted relationship with key senior marketers is essential. 
As part of a high-performance team, you will be tasked with providing strong and robust counsel to drive the strategic vision and positive outcomes for our client’s business. 
Further, the development of direct reports and the wider team will be a key part of your role.

Key Responsibilities

As a Strategy Director your responsibilities are across the Strategy Team, our clients and the broader agency - giving you the opportunity to impact and develop high value outputs across a variety of teams.
  • Develop an excellent knowledge & understanding of your clients’ business and be considered a valuable contributor to the strategic discussion including having the ability to challenge other’s opinions if the need arises.
  • Identify, develop and oversee the delivery of unique and innovative strategies to deliver the client’s desired results born from sound marketing theory and behavioural understanding in responses to briefs and outside of campaign briefings.
  • Collaborate with creative agencies, media partners and Mediabrands business units to deliver a seamless product for the client.
  • Know when key client briefing/planning periods are and manage team expectations in terms of workload and any necessary support from the State Strategy Director and CSO.
  • Take a lead in developing and supporting the training needs of junior Strategy team members.
  • Drive the sharing work internally and contribute to wider agency learning and inspiration.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Proven ability to deliver and own Strategic responses for clients – the ability to own projects, manage up and down the agency chain as well as working seamlessly with external agencies and media partners including the proven ability to engage in bigger business strategic conversations.
  • Initiative and passion is at the core of what look for in candidate – we want independent thinkers who can contribute to the bigger group, internally, externally and with key partners.
  • An ability to translate data from multiple sources into actionable insights. Sources may include but are not limited to Roy Morgan, WARC, GWI, Nielsen, Kantar, Contagious, qualitative & quantitative data.
  • Maintain knowledge & understanding of the Australian media marketplace, ownership structure, trends in readership, viewing, etc.
  • Articulate presentation and public speaking skills are a must – we are selling our recommendations to clients to help inform and shape important business solutions, so we need to bring our a-game.
