Position Summary

The Trading Manager is responsible for assisting in managing the entire buying process across all media to deliver to key media objectives and to assist in conversations with the Planning team on campaign optimisations to ensure delivery of business outcomes.

You work collaboratively with the Planning and Client team, however your core focus is the management of a high performing team of Partnerships Traders and Executives that work alongside you to ensure consistent delivery of effective campaigns with media and business outcomes that meet (or exceed) the UM set benchmarks/KPI’s for the specific client that you work on.
You are an effective communicator with your Senior Trading Manager / Trading Director and State/National Head of Trading to ensure they are appropriately updated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages day-to-day Trading outputs for all clients they work across.
  • Key connection through to the Planning team to keep them across campaign tracking and optimisations.
  • Trains junior team members on UM approach to best practice trading.
  • Ensures pre, mid and post campaign reporting are completed on time, accurately and providing to the Planning/Client teams.
  • Supports the Senior Trading Manager / Trading Director by managing day to day workflow of junior team members.
  • Ensures all tasks delegated from the Senior Trading Manager / Trading Director are completed within the given timeframes.
  • Supports workflow and resource allocation within their team.
  • Manages issues effectively and reports issues or concerns to the Senior Trading Manager / Trading Director.
  • Co-support the Senior Trading Managers / Trading Directors in all Trading discipline PDP’s and reviews for all members of your team to ensure performance goals are being met and opportunities for growth exists within the team.
  • Works in collaboration with the Planning team to create and present Creative Connections Recommendations and Connections Plans with a core focus on trading elements.
  • Ensures team WIPs are scheduled and actions allocated responsibilities post WIP.
  • Drives a collaborative approach with all UM departments including BUs to execute best in class media solutions.
  • Ensures relationships between the team and media partners are strong and resolves any issues quickly.
  • Attends all required media partner presentations.
  • Takes an active role in briefing media vendors alongside the Planning team.
  • Attends required training as part of development.
  • Participates in agency and group trading initiatives ensuring best practice.
  • Effectively executes manages minor campaign negotiations.
  • Provides accurate media costs for planning purposes.
  • Quality control of proforma and account query checks.
  • Quality control checks on reports that are sent to clients. 
  • Implement tracking and reports to control and monitor buying performance.
  • Holds weekly tracking meetings with use of templates to ensure effective delivery.
  • Helps troubleshoot any issues with our media partners. 
  • Support on agency pitches when available.
  • Feeds into the trading recommendation (in collaboration with Planning Managers) for day-to-day campaign optimisations to ensure delivery against business outcomes. 
  • Works closely with BU’s to ensure delivery is as per planned outcomes. Works to lead troubleshooting if there are any concerns.
  • Assists with the compilation of client reporting requirements, local and/or global.
  • Maintain consistent integrity of data through the regular use of MiQ.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in the industry and as such you have a fundamental and robust knowledge of the Australian media landscape.
  • Remains up to date with all Australian and global market trends and has an educated point of view of the impact it has on their client’s business and/or approach to trading execution.
  • Works with the Senior Trading Manager / Trading Director to create a positive and motivating work environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage a team of up to six (6) people effectively.
  • Has a clear demonstration of problem solving skills and comes solutions ready.
  • Developing skills in creating minor negotiation approaches, strategies and executing in market, working in conjunction with the Senior Trading Manager / Trading Director.
  • Shows strong collaboration with the Planning Manager in the development of Creative Connections Recommendations and Connections Plans.
  • Has an inherit nature to mentor and train Partnerships Traders and Executives on best practice.
  • Lives and breathes trading.
  • Continued development of presentation skills with more senior clients, media partners and internal UM and Mediabrands stakeholders.
  • Has a positive portrayal of the Trading craft internally to build presence of the discipline.
